The Dakpannah Show is pleased to recognize Emma C. Metieh Glassco, as Public Servant of the Year, 2020.
Madame Glassco currently serves as Director General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA). She brings an extensive background of both education and experience. She achieved an MSc from the World Maritime University, and a Diploma from the Australian National University. Her studies and internships allowed her to expand her broad knowledge of Ocean Sustainability, International Maritime Law and Policy and Sustainable Fisheries Management.
These accolades came to the attention of Dr. George M. Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, who appointed her to this position very shortly after his inauguration. It is not only her responsibility to maintain and grow the Fisheries of Liberia, but also to strengthen relations with international bodies.
Ms. Glassco’s achievements include a grant with Japan in 2019, securing 400 motors for Liberian fishermen, which would greatly decrease product spoilage and thus increase the economy of Liberia.
In an international agreement, NaFAA secured $40M from the World Bank in early 2020 for the construction of a fishing port. She signed a bilateral agreement with the government of Senegal for the purpose of attracting sustainable private sector investments, thus increasing NaFAA’s revenue contribution to the government from thousands to millions.
Most recently, Ms. Glassco introduced a Fisheries Laboratory, which will be set up to international standards. Equipment for this lab was secured through the Icelandic Project. Once fully operational, the lab will work with an international governing board, to become accredited.
Ms. Glassco’s personal and professional achievements account for the reason we selected her as our Public Servant of the Year, 2020.
