The City Mayor of Monrovia, Jefferson Tamba Koijee has vowed to violate the Code of Conduct that prohibits public officials appointed by the President from engaging in active political activities and canvassing. Section 5.1 of the Code of Conduct states that all officials appointed by the President of the Republic of Liberia shall not: (a) engage in political activities, canvass or contest for elected offices; (b) use Government facilities, equipment or resources in support of partisan or political activities; (c) serve on a campaign team of any political party, or the campaign of any independent candidate.
But speaking Wednesday, July 20, 2020, at the Monrovia City Corporation, Mayor Koijee promised to roll his sleeves and actively campaign for all candidates on the ticket of the ruling Coalition for Democratic in violation of section 5.1 of the Code of Conduct. He further urged anybody who thinks that he is in violation of the law to take him on in the court of law.
The Parrot News has gathered that this is not the first of its kind to see Jefferson Koijee and scores of presidential appointees in barefaced violation of the Code of Conduct. In 2018 Representative by-election in district 13, Montserrado County, President Weah led tons of his officials on the campaign launch of CDC’s candidate, John J. Weah that included Jefferson Koijee, Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah, Min. Wilson K. Tarpeh, Dr Samora P.Z. Wolokollie, Zogar D. Wilson, and others. The CDC candidate’s campaign launch in district 13, Montserrado County that coincided with the launch of the candidate of the Unity Party, Cornelius Krah Togba, witnessed Jefferson T. Koijee paraded with members of the “Sabu Unit” of the CDC and instructed them to brutalise supporters and sympathisers of the CPP’s candidate. Mayor Koijee’s presence in district 13 during the by-election was heavily marred with a bloodbath. Under the instruction of Koijee, dozens of supporters of Cornelius Togba were tortured, beaten and wounded severely with one person allegedly killed by his “Sabu Unit” without investigation by the Liberia National Police up to today or even condemnation from George Weah.
Moreover, it can be recalled that during the 2019 Senatorial and Representative by-elections in Montserrado County, a group of thuggish partisans of the CDC acting under the direct mandate of Mayor Koijee dragged the Deputy Police Director for Operation from in his car, beat on him severely and robbed his hair in the sand when he, 102 when in the CDC’s compound to arrest rioters who instigated bloody violence at the headquarters of the Liberty Party, when scores of members of the CPP went to celebrate Dillon’s victory in Montserrado. Liberians are left to wonder why in the face of all these wonton violent attacks carried on by Koijee, the President remains tip-lip and is not condemning these ugly acts by Koijee that has rebirthed the days of Chukie Taylor and Benjamin Nyentain. Jefferson Koijee has always been seen moving and holding meetings with Ex-combatants and warlords with the motive of going after people who are opposed to the government and stand in the way of their chances to secure a second term presidency.
